Tommy Toe Award

This is the Tommy Toe Award:

The Tommy Toe gets its name from what my mother used to call this delicious fruit that makes such wonderful sandwiches with bacon and lettuce. The BLT was one of my mother's favorites. Every year when fresh tomatoes were available in the garden, she would get together with a friend and they would make BLTs for lunch. I remember those days well, and I still consider the BLT to be one of my favorite sandwiches.

Winners of the Tommy Toe

The Other Alice submitted a winning caption for a male duck landing on the ice and snow--face first.  Her caption?  " 'South,' he said.  Never asking for directions again!"  For a young lady, she seems to understand the male psyche.

Briana won in the same caption contest as The Other Alice.  Her entry: "Everything was going perfectly until the landing gear failed."

Ryan's caption for a picture of two sisters in front of a microphone won a Tommy Toe.  The older sister is saying to the younger, "Don't be nervous, just imagine the audience are in their underwear."

Vanilla, or as we call him at this house, "Hoosier Daddy," won the award for defining verification words. I believe the entry that put him over the top was this:

Slyte --n. tricky expression of disrespect, so smooth that the recipient doesn't know he's been insulted.
--v.t. (-d, slyting) the act of showing such disrespect. "Junior's garage is the best in these parts." (As, it is the only garage in these parts, hence Junior has been "slyted.")

Pricilla was tied with Vanilla in the contest to define verification words. Just between us, I think the publicist may have helped Pricilla just a bit. But don't underestimate Pricilla she is a wise goat. I'm only guessing, but I believe this entry gave her the win:

Hobbing - when Lin's cat Hobbes steals all the food. (Hobbes, like Pricilla, has a large fan club.)

That was Pricilla's second win. The first win came from correctly identifying an extreme close-up of a thistle blossom. Being a goat, she might have had an advantage over us two-legged folk.

Lin won her Tommy Toe in the Blogosphere's Got Talent I contest. Her talent is dancing. The record is not clear whether she won for square dancing with Joe -- the photo shows that they are out of step with each other -- or if it was her rain dance. The second photo she entered shows Lin decked out in waders and long rubber gloves as she does a Lithuanian rain dance. I'm guessing it must have been the rain dance.

Meghan is my neighbor and friend. She correctly identified an extreme close-up of daffodil stamens to win her Tommy Toe. She did this despite a description by this blog's author that was meant to give misdirection. Congratulations Meghan.

Mikki is my niece and Clara's daughter. I promise I didn't vote to give her the award in a very close contest. However, I was pleased that she mostly closely identified the extreme close-up of a live heron's breast. It was this post that gave me the final push to start blogging. Thanks Mikki, I love you.

Sharkbytes has become a very good friend. She is a lover of the out of doors. Lots of interesting posts adorn her blog and she comes up with some killer quizzes. She correctly identified an extreme close-up of the mane of a Belgian draft horse. How did she do that? It looked to me like the hair of a certain blond I used to know.

Clara, my sister, won the first Tommy Toe Award. She did the best job by a blogger to identify a close-up of snow on my driveway blown so that it looked like foam on water. It was tough. I was pleased that she was the first winner. Clara has been a huge help to me in getting started in this blogging business and in attracting traffic to this site. She helped me through that steep portion of the learning curve. Thanks Clara. I love you.
